It looks like President Barack Obama called out Fox News — on Fox News. In a conversation with "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace, President Obama got onto the subject of political polarization and seemed to blame, in part, the very outlet with which he was speaking. It was the president's first interview on that channel in two years. "Nobody’s going to be 100 percent satisfied — in a democracy like ours — with every outcome," he said, addressing voter frustration with government. "And I think the danger, both among Republicans, and among Democrats, who increasingly just listen to each other. Or they just listen to people who already agree with them. Republicans, they have their own TV station." As President Obama continued, Wallace cut him off. "Go ahead. You can say Fox News," he said. President Obama didn't clarify, but continued with his point: "They’ve got their own publications, their own blogs," he said. "Democrats, same thing."

A 2014 Pew Research Center study found that consistent conservatives are more tightly clustered around a single outlet than those in any other ideological category, with 47 percent citing Fox News as their main news source. An earlier 2012 Pew study found that 23 percent of Fox viewers considered themselves to be moderate, while another 10 percent were self-described liberals. President Obama's comments came after Wallace asked whether Obama felt "any personal responsibility" over the fact that millions of Americans still feel "cut out" from the decisions that affect their lives. "Well, there’s no doubt that I feel frustrated about it," President Obama said. "My whole, you know, operating assumption, in terms of our democracy, is the more people are involved, the more they know, the more they're involved, the more responsive our government is."
