RULE CHANGES NEEDED TO ADD VOICES IN MEDIA

[Commentary] How do we ensure that diverse communities get the coverage they deserve here in Illinois? Broadcasters are pushing for steps that will improve ownership opportunities for women and minorities. We must have a public policy that seeks to ensure a multitude of voices in the media, while at the same time allowing enough flexibility to foster a competitive and healthy media market. Holding back an entire industry with archaic media ownership rules and wishing for change is not the proper solution. It is our hope the FCC will recognize that its current rules -- many adopted a generation ago -- do a grave disservice to our local communities and the diverse neighborhoods they serve.
