SCHOOLS TARGETED IN SPECTRUM DEBATE

In a dispute over a coveted band of wireless spectrum known as Educational Broadband Service, Sprint Nextel has petitioned the FCC to stop granting license renewals to schools and other nonprofits whose licenses have expired. Sprint says the practice sets a dangerous precedent, but many educators argue it's hard for rural schools to keep up with the required paperwork--and they say Sprint's heavy-handed approach threatens their ability to maintain their portion of the spectrum.
