Sen Rockefeller lobbies for public safety bill
March 10, 2011
Senate Commerce Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) lobbied the Senate to support his public safety broadband bill in remarks on the floor March 10.
He pegged his speech around the date: Tomorrow marks six months before Sept. 11, which will mark 10 years since the terrorists attacks. He urged members to support his bill, which would devote a chunk of airwaves to public safety agencies so they can build a nationwide network for first responders. Chairman Rockefeller also noted that the legislation "pays for itself" by auctioning off TV station spectrum to raise revenue.
