The Missouri Senate Commerce Committee voted 7-2 Tuesday to send a statewide video franchising bill to a working group chaired by its sponsor, Sen. John Griesheimer, R-Washington. The group will discuss language governing the construction of video systems before the bill moves to the Senate floor. Gary Markenson, executive director of the Missouri Municipal League, said he'd like to see requirements that cable companies carry public access and emergency interrupt channels. The current bill would allow franchisees to carry them only if it was technologically feasible.
