Advancing Community Broadband will highlight exemplary cases of what we call Community Broadband. The cases will

  • Demystify broadband development
  • Provide strategies for working with existing local ISPs and legacy broadband providers
  • Educate the public about starting up community-owned ISPs, specifically through the lens of the utilities co-op sector, where over 200 of the nation’s 900 electric co-ops have developed a number of strategies for starting new, community-owned ISPs.

Dr. Keith Taylor, Associate Professor of Cooperative Extension & Community Economic Development from University of California (UC Davis), is originally from rural Central Illinois. He holds a PhD in Human and Community Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is affiliated with Indiana University’s Ostrom Workshop, and is a co-founder of the Electric Cooperative Innovation Center.
