Ohio Investing $94.5 Million to Expand Broadband Access in 23 Ohio Counties
Governor Mike DeWine (R-OH), Lt. Governor Jon Husted (R-OH), and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced a state investment of $94.5 million that will provide affordable, high-speed internet access to more than 35,000 households across the state. As part of the second round of the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant (ORBEG) program, the Broadband Expansion Authority authorized BroadbandOhio to provide funding to two internet service providers, Time Warner Cable Midwest and Brightspeed, for six projects serving 23 counties.
Ohio Announces New Broadband Infrastructure Training Program
Lieutenant Gov Jon Husted (R-OH) is launching the newly designed Broadband Infrastructure Training Program at Buckeye Hills Career Center in Rio Grande (OH). Students will go through an approximately 12-week interactive learning journey that includes the design, installation, and service components of broadband networks.
Ohio Announces Over $232 Million in Funding for New Broadband Expansion Projects
Gov Mike DeWine (R-OH) and Lt Gov Jon Husted (R-OH) announced new broadband expansion projects that will make affordable, high-speed internet available to nearly 100,000 households in Ohio that currently don't have access to reliable internet connectivity. The Broadband Expansion Authority authorized BroadbandOhio to award more than $232 million in grants to 11 internet service providers as part of the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant Program. The funding will be used to cover the “broadband funding gap” associated with 33 broadband expansion projects impacting 31 counties.
Gov DeWine Launches New Grant Program to Expand Broadband Access in Ohio
Gov Mike DeWine (R-OH) announced that the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant program is now accepting online applications. Funded as part of Ohio's 2022-2023 operating budget, the program will provide $250 million in grants to internet service providers (ISPs) for the construction of broadband projects that improve high-speed internet access in unserved and underserved areas of the state.
Broadband Expansion in East Cleveland
A new broadband expansion project located in the City of East Cleveland will connect residents to reliable, low-cost high-speed internet. The project will connect more than 1,000 households in its first phase, with plans to scale up access to 2,000 households. East Cleveland households will pay $15 a month for internet speeds of 50 Mbps for download and 10 Mpbs for upload (twice the minimum federal definition of high-speed internet). The first antenna tower has been activated on the roof of Mayfair Elementary School.
