South Bend, Indiana expands internet access through the Citywide Classroom South Bend program
City and South Bend (IN) school leaders are once again expanding internet access to eligible students and families. The Citywide Classroom South Bend program — a partnership between the city, South Bend schools and local nonprofit enFocus — will now provide access to all 21st Century Scholars, teachers, staff and school employees in the South Bend district.
South Bend hires new innovation chief -- Denise Linn Riedl
A month after the City of South Bend’s first Chief Innovation Officer stepped down, the city has named Denise Linn Riedl to fill the position. Riedl is a Benton Foundation Fellow and previously worked at the City Tech Collaborative in Chicago and also held positions at the Smart Chicago Collaborative and the Federal Communications Commission. Riedl will start work for South Bend on February 11.
Milton, Indiana to Expand Its Fiber Footprint
High-speed Internet in one pocket of Cass County (IN) will get a boost this year as Milton Township invests in rolling out more fiber. The township board voted this past Dec to award $75,000 to Midwest Energy & Communications of Cassopolis to install five miles of fiber that will be able to serve about 80 homes.
