Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program

The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that Arkansas received its first “Internet for All” grants for deploying high-speed Internet service networks and developing digital skills training programs under the Biden-Harris Administration’s Internet for All initiative. Arkansas is receiving $5,843,671.85 in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Job Act to plan for the deployment and adoption of affordable, equitable, and reliable high-speed Internet service throughout the state.

The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that Alaska received its first “Internet for All” grants for deploying high-speed Internet networks and developing digital skills training programs under the Biden-Harris Administration’s Internet for All initiative. Alaska is receiving $5,567,800.00 in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed by President Biden, to plan for the deployment and adoption of affordable, equitable, and reliable high-speed Internet service throughout the state.

West Virginia is receiving $5,728,065.00 in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to plan for the deployment and adoption of affordable, equitable, and reliable high-speed Internet service throughout the state.

The District of Columbia is receiving $5,463,126.49 in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to plan for the deployment and adoption of affordable, equitable, and reliable high-speed Internet service throughout the District.

Virginia is receiving $6,222,051.95 in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to plan for the deployment and adoption of affordable, equitable, and reliable high-speed Internet service throughout the state.

Although broadband internet access has increased in much of the U.S., nearly 1 in 4 rural Americans still say it is a major problem in their community. Broadband access also remains a challenge for residents of affordable rental housing. These properties may have no internet access or only limited access in community facilities.

Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Drew Ferguson (R-GA), authored and introduced H.R. 9449, The Broadband Grant Tax Treatment Act, bipartisan legislation to amend the Internal Revenue Code to ensure that funding directed for the implementation of broadband from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) will not be considered taxable income. This bill was introduced in the Senate by Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) and joined by Sens.
