Sen Markey Urges Movement on Nomination of Gigi Sohn to FCC
Sen Ed Markey (D-MA) is urging Congress to move the nomination of Gigi Sohn [Senior Fellow and Public Advocate at the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society] to be the fifth member of the Federal Communications Commission. Her nomination has been held up for two years because not enough Democrats could be lined up to hold a Senate vote.
February 2023 Open Meeting Agenda
Here’s what the Federal Communications Commission will consider at our February open meeting.
Public funding programs are helping to create a more viable business case for investing in broadband infrastructure to expand access to unserved and under-served locations across the U.S. With more than $100B in funding being made available over the next 10 years, the critical questions at the start of 2023 are how this funding will be distributed and what decisions can network operators and service providers make to maximize their investments.
Connected America is organised by Total Telecom, the creators of the UK’s largest connectivity event, Connected Britain. The inaugural Connected America event will bring together communications service providers at national, state, and local level alongside the public sector, enterprise verticals and suppliers to discuss the how and why of improving broadband coverage in America.
Investing in infrastructure can stimulate economic growth and unleash job creation across the nation. Whether building roads, repairing pipes, or upgrading power plants, investments in the country’s transportation, water, energy, and broadband systems not only supports more economic output, but also drives the need for more workers.
The Minnesota Office of Broadband Development, Association of Minnesota Counties, League of Minnesota Cities, and the Minnesota Association of Townships, and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration invite you to the Internet for All: Connecting One Minnesota Workshop in Prior Lake, MN!
Media Ownership Diversity Symposium
As we work to close the digital divide, thousands of Americans live in non-traditional homes. 17.7 million people (5.6% of the population) live in manufactured homes across the country. Further, 1 million Americans live in recreational vehicles full-time and over 9 million families travel in RVs. That’s nearly 30 million people and families that need access to Gigabit broadband but may be challenged to get fiber. This session with Joe Costello, CEO of Kwikbit Internet, will explore strategies to close the digital divide in these non-traditional environments.
The purpose of these quarterly calls is to update organizations and entities working in the broadband ecosystem with new and updated information about the program. Our call will feature the following agenda:
- Welcome and announcements
- Program Updates from:
- FCC Outreach Grants Program
- ACP Housing Pilot Program (“Your Home, Your Internet”)
- ACP Mapping Team
- USAC Update
