Training the Next Generation of Digital Rights Advocates
Over the past year, the International Policy team at Public Knowledge has developed a comprehensive curriculum and course materials for a free and open Spanish-language online course on the fundamentals of the Open Internet. Through a series of interactive materials and activities, selected bibliographies, expert video interviews, and online discussion boards, this course will train a new generation of thinkers and actors, specifically in Latin America, to propose and execute Open Internet policies with a human rights approach.
PK is launching this course in collaboration with Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU), and was supported by a diverse and expert advisory board from across North and South America. Financial support was provided by the Ford Foundation and Google. PK is happy to confirm the funders have had no editorial control or guidance over the final course. Applications will be accepted from February 23 through March 6, with the first facilitated class starting March 15. The course is aimed at students, young professionals, and those new to internet-related issues, though all are invited to join.
