Mayor Gavin Newsom wants San Francisco data on recreation facilities, the cleanest restaurants, bus routes and street sweeping schedules a mouse-click away. Mayor Newsom is announcing legislation Sept 13 to make permanent an innovative executive order he issued last year directing all city department chiefs to publish data online, as long as it meets privacy and security guidelines. The Gavin administration contends it makes government more transparent, drives innovation and saves taxpayer money.
