House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is targeting April 14 for votes on the Radio Spectrum Inventory Act and the Truth in Caller ID Act.

The spectrum bill, championed by House Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA), would direct the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Federal Communications Commission to study radio spectrum and report elements of it that remain under-utilized. The goal is to make better use of spectrum frequencies through sharing and reallocation and will encourage both innovation and competitiveness." A companion bill introduced by Sens John Kerry (D-MA) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) awaits action in the Senate.

The Caller ID bill would prohibit companies from faking their caller ID data in an attempt to deceive consumers -- a process known as "spoofing."
