Free ride ends for Amazon

[Commentary] After years of fighting against state governments who wanted it to collect sales taxes from its enormous customer base, Amazon has shifted course. The e-tailer begins collecting California sales tax on September 15, much to the relief of the cash-strapped state Legislature. But will Amazon's shift herald a trend in Internet commerce? It might, and it should - at least for the biggest online retailers.
