Sen Flake Who Voted To Defund NPR: I'm 'An NPR Listener'

Despite voting against providing federal funding for National Public Radio while serving in the House of Representatives, Sen Jeff Flake (R-AZ) admitted he's "an NPR listener" during an appearance on "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!" on Feb 15. “If an NFL player can come out as gay, a Republican senator can come out as an NPR listener," Sen Flake said, referencing Michael Sam, who came out in early February and is eligible for the 2014 NFL draft. Federal funding for NPR was targeted by Republicans in March 2011, but was ultimately spared in a budget deal passed in April of that year. Republicans -- including Sen Flake -- also targeted NPR in 2010, using a procedural maneuver to force a vote on the issue.
