House GOP social media contest: Lights, camera, action
July 10, 2014
Here’s something you don’t see every day: a spoof summer blockbuster film preview aimed at improving House Republicans’ social media skills. The 70-second clip -- complete with suspense-filled music and action footage from “Star Wars,” “Braveheart” and “The Lion King” -- promotes the House GOP’s annual contest that started this week, pitting members against each other on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Aides to House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) produced the short film in-house and the Washington Republican aired it during a member meeting in the Capitol.
