In an effort to increase broadband connectivity across the state, Gov Terry Branstad (R-IA) has announced a new public-private partnership designed to raise money for the effort. Gov Branstad unveiled a Blue Ribbon Initiative that charges Connect Iowa with raising $2 million in private funding to assist with broadband expansion planning in communities throughout Iowa.

Gov Branstad says getting high-speed broadband to rural communities in Iowa is vital to economic success. "We want to connect every acre with robust, high-speed internet in all forms, because it will help our communities preserve what is best about our past and create new opportunities for a bright future in our state," said Gov Branstad. The Governor called on communities in Iowa to continue to push forward when it comes to technology, saying enhanced broadband is key to a community thriving. Iowa Chief Information Officer Bob Von Wolffradt says using money from a combination of legislation and the private sector is key when it comes to broadband expansion.
