FLEETING PROFANITIES BILL UNLIKELY TO SEE SENATE FLOOR VOTE

The Protecting Children from Indecency Programming Act (S. 1780) is not on the Senate calendar and, therefore, is unlikely to get a floor vote before legislators head off for their holiday break. The bill, introduced by Sen Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and approved by the Senate Commerce Committee, is a response to a Federal Appeals Court decision that the Federal Communications Commission had not justified its decision to crack down on fleeting profanities. The FCC appealed that decision to the Supreme Court, arguing that it did justify it.
