Let carriers use 700 MHz for European wireless broadband from 2020, report recommends

A high-level European Union report has recommended forcing broadcasters to stop using 700 MHz spectrum by 2020, so the airwaves can be freed up for wireless broadband. In Europe, 700 MHz (really 694-790 MHz) is still largely reserved for TV broadcasts and wireless microphones, as is most other UHF spectrum. However, a report by Pascal Lamy, a former trade commissioner and World Trade Organization chief, said it should be reserved for wireless broadband by 2020 -- give or take two years.

China Gives Microsoft 20 Days to Explain Problems

Chinese officials gave Microsoft 20 days to explain what they called compatibility and bundling issues with its software, putting pressure on the software maker as it faces an antitrust probe into its business practices. Pakistani Protesters Ransack State Television Headquarters

Pakistan’s political crisis deepened on Sept 1 when protesters stormed the headquarters of the state-run television network, causing a temporary lapse in transmission until army troops regained control and secured the building.

Hundreds of people, many armed with sticks, ransacked the Pakistan Television building in central Islamabad, smashing vehicles in the parking lots and cutting transmission cables in the newsrooms. The network said that at least 14 cameras had been stolen. The dramatic scenes underscored the growing sense of chaos in the Pakistani capital, which has been paralyzed for more than two weeks by protesters calling on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign.
