Before I begin, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Samantha Schartman-Cycyk, who was charged with managing the Benton Digital Equity Champion Award process this year, and also thank her dedicated committee.

On Tuesday, April 17, the House Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing –  entitled “From Core to Edge: Perspective on Internet Prioritization” – to  better understanding of how network operators manage data flows over the Internet and how data is prioritized from the network core to the edge.

This article is the first in a series looking at Facebook's influence on our democratic discourse and elections. (see Part II and Part III)
