As Funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program Ends, Commissioner Starks Urges Congress to Act

Today, the bipartisan Affordable Connectivity Program expires.  This will cause real harm to millions of Americans.  ACP is the most effective program we have ever had in closing the digital divide.  Over 23 million households enrolled in ACP, realizing the benefits of affordable, high-speed broadband.  And now we are leaving them behind. Let’s put that 23 million in context.  That’s one in six households in the country.  Millions of veterans, seniors, families of color, and households with children.

Spectrum Launches Gigabit Broadband, Mobile,
TV and Voice Services in Vance County (NC)

Spectrum announced the launch of Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services to more than 330 homes and small businesses in Vance County (NC). Spectrum’s newly constructed fiber-optic network buildout in Vance County is part of the company’s approximately $5 billion Rural Digital Opportunity Fund-related investment in unserved rural communities, partly offset by $1.2 billion in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) RDOF auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to 1.3 million customer locations across 24 states in the coming years.

WOW! Awarded $2.39 Million Grant by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to Expand its Footprint

WOW! Internet, TV & Phone accepted a $2.39 million grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) program. These funds represent an addition to WOW!’s contribution of $1.02 million, for a total investment of $3.41 million. WOW! will use the funds to extend its fiber network to serve nearly a thousand homes in Houston and Henry Counties in southeastern Alabama. The ADECA program works to positively impact Alabama communities through partnerships, grant programs, and services to spur community and economic development and enhance quality of life.

T-Mobile to Acquire UScellular Wireless Operations and Deliver Exceptional Value, a Superior 5G Experience and Unparalleled Benefits to Millions of Customers

T-Mobile has agreed to acquire substantially all of UScellular’s wireless operations. This includes UScellular’s wireless customers and stores, as well as certain specified spectrum assets. Upon closing, T-Mobile’s leading 5G network will expand to provide millions of UScellular customers, particularly those in underserved rural areas, a superior connectivity experience, moving from a roaming experience outside of the UScellular coverage area to full nationwide access on the country’s largest and fastest 5G network.
