FCC Seeks Comment on C-Band Auction
The Federal Communications Commission's Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, International Bureau, Office of Engineering and Technology, and Office of Economics and Analytics invite interested parties to supplement the record to address issues raised by commenters in response to the FCC's July 2018 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in GN Docket No. 18-122. The FCC sought comment on several approaches, including auction-based approaches, for making some or all of the 3.7-4.2 GHz band (C-Band) available for terrestrial, flexible use.
FCC Seeks Comment On Petition For Declaratory Ruling or Rulemaking on Unwanted Texts
The Federal Communications Commission's Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau seeks comment on a petition for declaratory ruling or, alternatively, rulemaking filed by Paul Armbruster. FCC Proposes to Issue List of Price Cap Wire Centers With Nearby Fiber
The Federal Communications Commission's Wireline Competition Bureau proposes to publicly release the list of Common Language Location Identification (CLLI) codes for price cap incumbent local exchange carrier (LEC) wire centers that have alternative fiber within a half-mile (nearby alternative fiber). This list of CLLI codes is based on an analysis of highly confidential information submitted in response to the FCC’s 2015 special access data collection (2015 Collection) which has been incorporated into the record of this proceeding. FCC Authorizes $524 Million for Rural Broadband Expansion in 23 States
The Federal Communications Commission authorized over $524 million in funding over the next decade to expand broadband to 205,520 unserved rural homes and businesses in 23 states, representing the third wave of support from 2018’s successful Connect America Fund Phase II auction. Providers will begin receiving funding in July. In total, the auction from fall 2018 allocated $1.488 billion in support to expand broadband to more than 700,000 unserved rural homes and small businesses over the next 10 years.
FCC Announces Membership and July 19 Meeting of the Communications, Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council VII
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai has appointed members to serve on the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC or Council) VII. FCC Activates Disaster Information Reporting for Tropical Storm Barry
The Federal Communications Commission has announced the activation of the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) in response to Tropical Storm Barry. Modernizing the E-Rate Program for Schools and Libraries NPRM
The Federal Communications Commission’s E-Rate program is a vital source of support for connectivity to—and within—schools and libraries. In particular, the E-Rate program provides funding for internal connections, which are primarily used for Wi-Fi, a technology that has enabled schools and libraries to transition from computer labs to one-to-one digital learning. We propose to make permanent the approach adopted by the FCC in 2014 to fund these internal connections.
FCC Extends Comment Cycle Deadline for USF Cap NPRM
On May 31, 2019, the Federal Communications Commission released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on establishing a cap on the Universal Service Fund (USF) and ways it could enable the FCC to evaluate the financial aspects of the four USF programs in a more holistic way, and thereby better achieve the overarching universal service principles Congress directed the FCC to preserve and advance. The Notice set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 30 days and 60 days, respectively, after publication of the Notice in the Federal Register.
FCC Seeks Comment on Lifeline Minimum Service Standards Petition
The Federal Communications Commission's Wireline Competition Bureau seeks comment on a Joint Petition to pause the implementation of scheduled updates to the Lifeline minimum service standards and support amounts. Petitioners request that the Bureau pause both the scheduled update to the minimum service standard for Lifeline-supported mobile broadband service and the scheduled reduction in the support amount for Lifeline-supported mobile voice service, both of which would otherwise take effect on December 1, 2019.
