Reaction Mostly Positive To Commerce Privacy Report
December 16, 2010
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Center for Digital Democracy all had favorable reactions to the Department of Commerce online privacy report.
However, the Center for Digital Democracy's Jeff Chester said, "Instead of real laws protecting consumers, we are offered a vague "multi-stakeholder" process to help develop "enforceable codes of conduct. If the Commerce Department really placed the interests of consumers first, it would have been able to better articulate in the report how the current system threatens privacy."
