National Broadband Availability Map Reaches 40 States and US Territory Participants
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s National Broadband Availability Map (NBAM) now includes 38 states, two US territories, and five federal agencies: US Department of Agriculture (USDA), US Department of the Treasury, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), the Economic Development Administration (EDA) and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The NBAM is a geographic information system platform which allows for the visualization and analysis of federal, state, and commercially available data sets.

NTIA’s Connecting Minority Communities Program Receives Over $833 Million in Funding Requests
The US Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that it has received more than 200 applications for the Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program, resulting in more than $833 million in funding requests for the purchase of broadband internet service, equipment, or devices, among other project goals.
Announcement of Proposed Service Areas for NTIA's Broadband Infrastructure Program
The Broadband Infrastructure Program is a $288 million broadband deployment program directed to facilitate partnerships between a state, or one or more political subdivisions of a State, and a provider of fixed broadband service to support broadband infrastructure deployment to areas lacking broadband. NTIA Awards First Grants to Tribal Groups Seeking to Expand Broadband
The US Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has awarded the first three grants as part of the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program. These initial awards, totaling nearly $1.4 million, are being made to the Taos Pueblo (NM), the Upper Mattaponi Tribe (VA), and the Sokaogon Chippewa Community (WI). Two of the grants will support the provision of broadband services, computers, and digital skills training to tribal members and one will fund a tribal broadband planning project.
NTIA Releases Analysis of Responses to 5G Challenge NOI
Earlier in 2021, NTIA issued a 5G Challenge Notice of Inquiry (NOI) on behalf of the Department of Defense, requesting information on how to use Prize Challenges to accelerate the development of the open 5G ecosystem and support Department of Defense missions.
