Verizon reports low fiber gains in second quarter 2022 results

Verizon reported its second quarter 2022 results on July 22. Total revenue for the company was $33.8 billion, relatively flat from second-quarter 2021. Its net income was $5.3 billion, a decrease of 10.7 percent from second-quarter 2021. Total broadband net additions reached 268,000, including 256,000 fixed wireless net additions. This was an increase of 39,000 from first-quarter 2022, and fixed wireless net additions increased 62,000 from first-quarter 2022. Verizon had 36,000 Fios Internet net additions.

Verizon delivers faster connections to 64 Native American reservations in 13 states

Verizon will deliver enhanced connectivity to approximately 80 Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools operated by Native American tribes on 64 reservations in 13 states. Verizon’s network investment across diverse tribal lands is expected to lead to reliable, high-speed internet service and connected devices for thousands of students. The work will support BIE's mission to provide quality education opportunities from early childhood through life in accordance with a tribe's needs for cultural and economic well-being.

Verizon sees strong wireless growth in 2022

Verizon reported first-quarter 2022 results that showed strong growth in its wireless business. Consolidated revenues for first-quarter 2022 totaled $33.6 billion, up 2.1 percent from first-quarter 2021. Verizon's growth in first-quarter 2022 was driven by the first full quarter of ownership of TracFone Wireless, higher equipment revenue, and strong wireless service revenue growth. The company saw a total wireless service revenue of $18.3 billion, a 9.5 percent increase year over year.

For the first time, Verizon is offering free Internet with its Fios Forward program to qualifying Affordable Connectivity Program customers. With Fios Forward and ACP, qualifying customers will have access to premium high-speed Internet without data caps, extra fees or equipment costs, helping them maintain connectivity for virtual learning, remote work, telehealth visits and more.
