Free State Foundation's Thirteenth Annual Telecom Policy Conference
Emerging technologies and applications are providing new opportunities for secure, privacy-protecting data sharing in both the public and private sector. As the federal government develops a plan intended to advance innovation in data and analytics, approaches like secure multiparty computation, homomorphic encryption, synthetic data, and differential privacy offer capabilities for managing input, analytical, and output privacy and promote data accessibility and use.
In a groundbreaking move, Congress is providing $7 billion in new funding to help schools and libraries support remote learning by extending their broadband connections off-campus. The opportunity formally opens a new door to exciting possibilities for how schools and libraries serve their communities. As these anchors prepare their applications for this funding, what can they learn from those that have already traveled this road?
The hearing will review recent federal actions to expand broadband coverage, including the Federal Communications Commission’s actions on the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), the Re-Connect program, and moves to enhance federal coordination among these existing programs. It also will consider the measures directed at broadband expansion adopted by Congress in response to the pandemic, like the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) broadband grant programs for Tribes, unserved areas, and minority-serving institutions.
A hearing on the critical need to invest in our nation’s infrastructure and on the Leading Infrastructure For Tomorrow’s America Act, or the LIFT America Act
